How to get there
“When Tybalt Loved Romeo” is a new play by Seattle-local playwright, Jack Seamus, which explores Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” through a queer lens. In this play, Tybalt Capulet (Juliet’s cousin) has just reluctantly broken up with Romeo Montague due to concerns about their family’s ongoing feud. Romeo then meets - and in quick succession, marries - Juliet, and the age-old story ensues. However, in this telling (which uses modern language), we follow other characters, including perspectives, relationships, and possibilities that weren’t within the scope of the original play. This staged reading will be the first public viewing of this play, and will be followed by a talkback with the artists involved.
